Hotel President Wilson
Geneva
The 3rd Round Table Meeting of the Mobile Messaging Industry, organized by EMMA, was held on September 5, 2003 in Geneva, Switzerland, at the President Wilson hotel. Operators and manufacturers from Australia, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom were represented by executives of the respective organizations. The Board of emma was also present.
After a review of the status of the networks operating in Europe, the Middle East, North America, Australia, and India, various issues currently affecting the industry were discussed. Particular emphasis was put on the need for action by the interested parties to create additional awareness on the efficiency and capabilities of paging and radio messaging technologies for population alerts and disaster recovery activities, in-country and cross-border, as the 2003 Summer crises in Europe and the black-out in North America have demonstrated. emma will coordinate such effort at governmental and press levels.
The discussion was followed by presentations given by Denise Pellen (Infostream), Dietmar Gollnick (eMessage) and Russ Allen (Glenayre).
The Round Table Meeting served as an opportunity to form a working group, which will prepare the formation and further activities of a Glenayre Users’ Group, to be launched at the emma Annual Conference later this year. This users’ group will operate under the joint auspices of emma and the Wireless Messaging Association of the UK.
